Fresh attacks trigger 24-hour curfew in Taraba

Karim-Lamido Local Government Area Implements 24-Hour Curfew Amid Rising Violence
KARIM-LAMIDO, Taraba State — In response to escalating security concerns, the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area has enacted a 24-hour curfew following recent incidents of property destruction and loss of life attributed to armed militia.
Virginia Baba Bambur, chairperson of the local government, stated that the decision was made after a series of violent attacks affected the Wurkum communities, including Didango, Mutum Daya Kodai, and Gurum. These attacks have resulted in multiple fatalities and prompted many residents to flee the area.
Reports indicate that fresh assaults occurred on Thursday and Friday, leading to a deterioration in the security landscape and necessitating the curfew. The directive applies to the affected communities within the local government area.
Bambur has instructed all relevant security agencies, including the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to ensure strict adherence to the curfew. She also emphasized the government’s commitment to investigating the underlying causes of the violence and ensuring accountability for those responsible.
In her statement, Bambur urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to restore peace and stability in the region.
