Israel’s Supreme Court Ruling on Torture Under Scrutiny
Israel remains the only country to have officially sanctioned torture through a ruling by its Supreme Court. An expert who has documented these allegations since 1983 stated that “what the world knows today is less than 5% of what has actually occurred.”
The issue of torture is examined in “Bodies of Evidence,” an investigative documentary produced by Al Jazeera. The film investigates the documented use of sexual violence, torture, and humiliation against Palestinian detainees. Human rights organizations and specialists assert that these practices have been systematically employed by Israeli military, intelligence, and prison authorities for decades.
Contributors to the documentary include prominent figures such as Francesca Albanese, Raji Sourani, Kifaya, Ayed Abu Eqtaish, Ben Marmarelli, Judge Cuno Tarfusser, and various survivors, whose identities are protected for their safety.
The documentary sheds light on these pressing human rights concerns as part of an ongoing discourse around the treatment of detainees in the region.
