Troops arrest two suspected herders after attack in Plateau community


Security forces operating under Operation Enduring Peace have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in an attack on residents in Sabon Layi village, located in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, according to a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

The troops, who were dispatched to the area as part of Operation Hard Knock, responded to a distress call reporting an attack allegedly conducted by Fulani herders. Upon arrival, they discovered an elderly woman who had sustained injuries during the confrontation.

Makama reported that, while two suspects were taken into custody, other members of the group managed to flee the scene. The injured woman was subsequently transported to Missionary Hospital in Sabon Layi for medical treatment.

The two arrested individuals were later transferred to the Keystone Mangu Divisional Police Command for further investigation and potential legal action. Security agencies are actively conducting operations in the area, focusing on efforts to maintain peace and prevent any further violence in the community.
