Anambra Police Arrest Two in Connection with Woman’s Disappearance

The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended two individuals regarding the disappearance of a 33-year-old woman from the Oraifite area, an incident that took place approximately three months ago.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated that the arrests were made after the case was transferred from the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

In a statement issued to the media on Wednesday, Ikenga detailed the circumstances surrounding the case. “We successfully uncovered the facts related to the disappearance and murder of the woman and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime,” he said.

The arrested individuals, both males, are identified as 26-year-old Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara and 20-year-old Makuochukwu Uzoigwe.

The case originated on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the local police headquarters. The following day, authorities discovered an unidentified female body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite. The deceased’s father later confirmed the identity of the body as his missing daughter.

After the case was escalated to the SCID in Awka for further investigation, police operatives utilized intelligence and digital forensic evidence to identify and arrest the two suspects on June 6, 2026.

Ikenga reported that during interrogation, Ikwugwara confessed to the murder, claiming a three-year relationship with the victim. He stated he was unaware that she was married and suggested that a disagreement with her husband had provoked him, leading to a “strange illness” that affected his vision. He admitted to plotting the attack out of resentment.

According to the suspect, he lured the victim to his home under the pretense of seeking assistance for his alleged illness. Once there, he and Uzoigwe reportedly attacked her with a machete, resulting in her death. They subsequently disposed of her body in the culvert.

Both suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and are expected to face charges upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
