Kwara NSCDC Arrests Man for Alleged Incest and Sexual Abuse
ILORIN, Nigeria — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara Command has arrested AbdulRauf Ambali, a 40-year-old man, following allegations of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse with his 14-year-old daughter.
NSCDC Commandant in Kwara, Mr. Abbas Nda-Muhammed, announced the arrest during a press briefing on Thursday. He stated that the suspect was apprehended based on credible information from community members in Alapa, located in Asa Local Government Area.
The case first came to light when Ambali himself reported that his daughter had been missing for three weeks, prompting an initial investigation at the Alapa Divisional Office on June 16. This inquiry was later referred to the NSCDC’s Gender Unit for further examination, Nda-Muhammed said.
During the course of the investigation, operatives from the Gender Unit successfully located the girl. According to Nda-Muhammed, she revealed that she had intentionally left her father’s home after enduring months of sexual abuse.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the victim had lived with her grandmother from childhood until she moved in with her father in December 2022, under the guise of receiving parental care,” Nda-Muhammed explained. “Shortly after this move, she alleged that her father began to subject her to repeated sexual abuse.”
The commandant detailed that the victim faced threats and physical abuse whenever she resisted her father’s advances. This ongoing mistreatment ultimately led her to flee without informing anyone of her whereabouts.
Nda-Muhammed further disclosed that the victim reportedly became pregnant in May as a result of the abuse. Ambali allegedly took her to a private facility where the pregnancy was terminated.
“The victim stated that she was warned against disclosing the abuse and was advised to undergo family planning to prevent future pregnancies,” he added.
During the investigation, Ambali is said to have confessed to having unlawful sexual relations with his daughter.
The commandant condemned the actions as a severe violation of parental responsibility and a grave infringement on the child’s rights and well-being. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
