Yola court remands teenagers over alleged mosque generator theft

YOLA, Nigeria — The Chief Magistrate Court 2 in Adamawa State has ordered the remand of two minors accused of stealing a generator from a local mosque.
The court also placed Auwalu Bashir, a scavenger, into custody for allegedly receiving the stolen property. The minors, identified as 14-year-old Saidu Alhassan and 13-year-old Mamman, are residents of the PZ Roundabout area in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area. They will be held in a juvenile remand home.
The defendants were brought before the court by Police Inspector Emmanuel Paul, who charged them with criminal conspiracy, theft, and possession of stolen property. The charges stemmed from a report made on June 13, 2026, by Murtala Isa, a resident of Jambutu Primary School, who notified Jambutu Police Station about the theft.
According to the prosecution, the minors allegedly stole a Perso Power Generator valued at 600,000 Naira, selling it to Bashir for 50,000 Naira.
