Former Buhari Chief of Staff Responds to Claims of Identity Change
Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, who served as Chief of Staff to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, expressed confidence in the identity of his longtime colleague, stating he has no doubt that Buhari remained the same individual he worked with in 1984.
Gambari made his remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday. He addressed popular rumors regarding Buhari’s identity, specifically the notion of “Jubril of Sudan,” which has circulated among some Nigerians.
“I’m sorry to disappoint,” Gambari said. “I had no doubt at all that the Buhari I knew in 1984 was the same until his death. That was really quite a silly thing to say he was a different person.”
He further lamented the tendency of some individuals to believe negative narratives about the government. “This man was talking to me when he offered me the job,” Gambari noted, remembering discussions they had about their earlier years in office. “He was talking about the kind of loyalty he got from me.”
Gambari’s statements underscore his conviction in Buhari’s authenticity, amidst ongoing public scrutiny and speculation.
