Police arrest six over alleged theft of 59 computers from Niger

Six Arrested for Theft of Computers at Niger State School

The Niger State Police Command has detained six individuals in connection with the theft of 59 computers and other equipment from the ICT center at Martin Sanda Girls Day Science College in the Paiko Local Government Area.

The incident was reported on June 21 after a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member discovered a broken window at the ICT room. A subsequent inspection confirmed the theft of 59 computers, 57 keyboards, a lithium solar battery, an inverter, and a current control panel.

In response to the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Paiko assigned detectives to investigate the matter. Following leads, police operatives arrested the six suspects linked to the incident.

The suspects have been identified as Adamu Hamisu, 30, an assistant contractor from Kuje, Abuja; Aminu Garba, 29, from Millionaires Quarters, Paiko; Abdul Hamid Mikailu, 29, a computer installer from New Quarters, Paiko; Idris Zakariya, 30, a volunteer staff member at the college; Ekene Asor Matthew, a serving corps member; and Abubakar Mohamed, 39, the school’s security guard.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the theft and to recover the stolen items. A police source indicated that efforts are being intensified to identify each suspect’s role in the incident.

The police command stated that more information would be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
