Kaduna State Police Rescue 75 Abducted Travelers

Kaduna State, Nigeria – The Kaduna State Police Command reported the successful rescue of 75 individuals, including men, women, and children, who had been abducted by suspected bandits and held in a cave near Folwaya Village, located in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.

The victims were traveling in commercial vehicles when they were intercepted by armed assailants and taken into the forest. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Mansir Hassan stated that the rescue operation was initiated following information from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

“The Kaduna State Police Command received credible information from the NURTW, Birnin Gwari branch, that some Fulani men, women, and children traveling in commercial buses were abducted by unknown armed men wielding AK-47 rifles and other sophisticated weapons at Folwaya Village,” Hassan said.

According to him, police officers from the Birnin Gwari Area Command were promptly dispatched to the location upon receiving the report. When confronted by the police, the abductors fled, abandoning their captives, who were subsequently rescued unharmed.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad commended the NURTW branch for providing timely and crucial information that enabled a swift police response. He also praised the Birnin Gwari Area Commander and his team for their effective handling of the situation.

Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and communicate any relevant information to security agencies as part of efforts to combat kidnappings and other forms of violence in the state.
