Stop spending lavishly on aso-ebi, wedding makeup – Emir of Zazzau to Nigerians

Zazzau Leader Calls for Restraint in Wedding Spending

Abuja—Ahmed Bamalli, the leader of Zazzau, has urged Nigerian families to reassess their wedding expenditures, expressing concern over the trend of lavish spending on aso-ebi attire and bridal makeup.

During the 20th anniversary celebration of the Crystal Muslim Organisation (CMO) in Abuja, Bamalli called on families to redirect funds typically used for extravagant weddings toward supporting those in need within their communities.

“Many families spend millions of naira on cosmetics for weddings,” Bamalli noted. He cited instances where parents invest as much as $10,000 on wedding makeup alone. “The cost of aso-ebi can reach up to half a million naira, which I find completely unacceptable. There are many individuals who struggle to afford three meals a day.”

The monarch emphasized that personal choices should reflect community responsibility. “I have never spent money on aso-ebi or cosmetics for weddings. If the mother chooses to do so, that’s her decision. However, I will not contribute to that expense.”

Bamalli also highlighted the current economic challenges facing the country, arguing that such extravagant spending is unwarranted. He encouraged families to guide their children toward investments that foster independence and community cohesion.

“It’s important to celebrate, but we must be mindful of unnecessary excesses,” he stated. “If you are living comfortably while those around you cannot afford basic necessities, we face a serious societal issue.”
