Kano Appeal Court demands evidence books from Sheikh Abduljabbar in blasphemy case

Kano State High Court Orders Submission of Evidence in Blasphemy Appeal

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State High Court, acting as the Court of Appeal, has directed the legal team representing Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara to submit the books he used as evidence during his original trial.

Sheikh Abduljabbar is appealing a death sentence imposed by the Upper Sharia Court at Kofar Kudu following his conviction for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). During the hearing, his legal counsel requested that the court annul the judgment of the lower court and dismiss the allegations against him.

In contrast, the counsel for the Kano State Government urged the appellate court to uphold the trial court’s conviction and sentence.

Presiding over the proceedings, Justice Nasir Saminu instructed Abduljabbar’s lawyers to present the relevant books to facilitate the court’s review of the case.

The court indicated that it would communicate a date for the judgment on the appeal at a later time.
