Tyrannosaurus Rex Skeleton Sells for Record $50 Million at New York Auction
A nearly complete skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex, affectionately named “Gus,” has been sold for a record-breaking $50.1 million at auction in New York. The dinosaur remains, estimated to be around 70 million years old, are approximately 80% intact. The final bid for the skeleton reached $43 million, but additional auction fees brought the total sale price to just over $50 million.
The auction took place on July 15, 2026, and marks one of the highest sales ever recorded for a dinosaur skeleton, reflecting the growing interest in paleontological artifacts among collectors and investors.
