Benue State Abduction: Two Siblings Still Held for Ransom
Some victims abducted along the Otukpo-Ogobia Road in Benue State have been released, following an incident where gunmen targeted the family. The attackers returned the driver, the body of an elderly woman, and one of her three children.
However, two siblings from the family remain in captivity, with kidnappers demanding a ransom of 30 million naira for their release.
According to reports from DAILY POST, the family was traveling from Abuja to Oklenyi in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State for the burial of their late mother when their vehicle broke down. While they were stranded, armed men ambushed and abducted them.
Family members informed Idoma Voice that the kidnappers subsequently released the driver, returned the deceased woman’s body, and freed one of her children. The remains of the woman have since been taken to Okpoga, where funeral services are underway.
Despite these partial releases, the family is still anxious about the fate of the two remaining siblings. Sources indicate that the abductors have made contact and reiterated their ransom demand of 30 million naira.
Families are actively working to gather the required funds while pressing security agencies to intensify efforts in securing the release of the captives.
While the family is relieved to have recovered their mother’s body for burial, they remain deeply concerned about the ongoing plight of the two siblings still held by the kidnappers.
As of the time of this report, the Benue State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
