Rivers State Governor Backs President Tinubu and Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections
RIVERS STATE, Nigeria — Governor Siminalayi Fubara has expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement spearheaded by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
Fubara made this announcement Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Riven Medical Facility, a public-private pharmaceutical project in Rivers State. He emphasized the need for unity among his supporters behind the coalition’s candidates, marking the end of a prolonged political crisis in the state.
“I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our President, and he is the one we are supporting. The governorship candidate is the candidate I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support every candidate under the Rainbow Coalition,” Fubara stated.
He dismissed calls for a delay in his alignment with the coalition, asserting that his choice had already been made. “I am already in the family. I have returned to our family. Give your total support to the coalition. The time of war is over; it is now time for peace, and that peace will take us to another level,” he said.
Fubara also ruled out any actions that could reignite political divisions within the state, stating, “I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity in this state. We have done what we need to do, and now we are moving forward.”
Regarding the Riven Medical Facility, Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to its success, noting that he agreed to support the investment based on its viability and projected delivery timeline. The first phase of the facility is anticipated to be completed within three months, a development he characterized as a strategic investment that would enhance industrialization, create jobs, and position Rivers State as a hub for medical consumables.
“This project is expected to stimulate economic activities, attract local and international patronage, and encourage the establishment of complementary industries,” Fubara explained. He assured that the state government would fully support the investors and urged local community members to cooperate with the company to ensure the project’s success.
Additionally, the governor disclosed ongoing litigation with several companies regarding claims exceeding ₦200 billion and emphasized the need to prevent contractual disputes that could deter investment.
Fubara expressed optimism that the first phase of the Riven Medical Facility would be ready for commissioning within the next three months.
