NYSC disowns viral notice on special redeployment window
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted a widely circulated notice that falsely claims a special redeployment window is currently open for corps members.
The NYSC issued a disclaimer on its verified X account, @officialnyscng, on Friday, labeling the notice as fake.
The fraudulent communication, titled “URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT,” was directed at “Parents/Guardians” and asserted that the redeployment window was “now open” citing concerns over “National Security, Health, and State of the Nation.” It urged corps members with “genuine grounds” to apply promptly to “ensure their safety, proper placement, and timely completion of service.”
Additionally, the notice prompted individuals seeking assistance to contact two provided phone numbers “ASAP,” and stated that “valid documents are required and all applications must follow NYSC guidelines.”
In response, the NYSC emphasized the notice’s illegitimacy, tagging it as “Disclaimer” and marking it with a bold “FAKE NEWS” watermark to caution the public against the misleading message.
As of this report, the NYSC has not identified those responsible for disseminating the false notice.
This incident is not isolated; fraudulent schemes have previously exploited the redeployment process to defraud corps members and their families.
Under the leadership of Director-General Olakunle Nafiu, the NYSC has reiterated that all matters regarding deployment and redeployment are managed exclusively through its official website and designated offices. The corps has made clear that it does not authorize agents or phone-based processing for such requests.
Corps members and the general public are encouraged to verify any communication purportedly from the NYSC through the official website and social media channels before taking action or making payments.
