Two Teenagers Killed in Settler Attack in West Bank
Two Palestinian teenagers were killed during a raid by Israeli settlers and armed forces in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday. The incident occurred in al-Mughayyir, a village that has experienced repeated violence in recent months from both settlers and Israeli military personnel.
The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that the victims, identified as Mohammad Na’ssan and Khalil Abu Aliya, were both 19 years old. Eyewitnesses stated that as residents attempted to confront the settlers, Israeli soldiers opened fire, resulting in critical injuries to two young men. They subsequently succumbed to their wounds.
Residents of al-Mughayyir reported that snipers were positioned on rooftops in the area prior to the fatal incident. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 79 Palestinians, including 19 children, have been killed by settlers or Israeli forces in the West Bank since the beginning of 2026. Additionally, over 1,870 Palestinians have been reported wounded.
The OCHA indicated that settler attacks in al-Mughayyir have largely targeted the village’s only access road, where vehicles have often been assaulted. In a recent attack on August 20, eleven Palestinians sustained injuries.
In another incident on Tuesday, Israeli forces deployed tear gas in a mosque in Madama, causing distress among those inside, according to footage verified by Al Jazeera. Earlier that day, settlers attempted to set fire to a mosque in the nearby town of Bazariya.
The increase in settler violence, often perceived to take place with the backing of Israeli forces, has drawn concern from international allies of Israel. Last month, a brief siege of a Palestinian home in Qusra, near Nablus, prompted a rare condemnation from U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. The European Union is currently considering a ban on goods produced by Israeli settlers.
In late August, Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Process ad interim, stated that settler attacks continue with “virtually no accountability.” Experts, including Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, have increasingly characterized such violence as resembling pogroms.
