Manny wouldn’t have met his wife if he had quit secular music – Burna Boy

Burna Boy Reflects on Music Director’s Journey at Wedding

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy reflected on the significance of music in shaping lives during the wedding of his music director, Emmanuel Abiola-Jacobs, also known as Manny or MD, over the weekend.

In his remarks, Burna Boy suggested that Manny might not have met his wife had he chosen to leave secular music for the gospel genre. The singer joked about the potential turn of events, stating that had Manny quit music, he would be found in church “clapping hands and praising the sky,” rather than enjoying the success he has today.

“Have you asked them how they met? You all are just eating and drinking,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of their shared journey through music.

He continued with a light-hearted tone, “Manny, you said you wanted to dump music and go back to Jesus and Christianity? If you had quit music, would you and your wife have met? I have given myself thanks because this wedding would not have happened if you gave up music and went to the church clapping and praising the sky.”

Burna Boy’s remarks highlighted the intertwining of personal and professional paths, celebrating both the couple’s love and the impact of music on their lives.
