Lots of Christian fans unfollowed me after revealing I am Muslim – Actress Adunni Ade

Nollywood actress Adunni Ade has reported that many of her Christian fans disengaged from her social media accounts after she publicly disclosed her Islamic faith.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jidenowo, Ade discussed the challenges of expressing her religious identity in the film industry. She stated that openly identifying as a Muslim can be viewed as controversial in Nollywood, suggesting it is “almost forbidden” to do so.
After finding the courage to reveal that Islam is her chosen faith, Ade noticed a backlash from some of her followers. “In my line of work, it is almost forbidden for you to publicly say you are a Muslim. You could be looked down upon for doing that. It is just something that I noticed,” she said.
Ade emphasized that her faith is rooted in internal beliefs rather than external appearances. “Islam for me is not all about outward look. It is what is within. How you treat others. I came out publicly with my religion because I was tired of keeping it a secret,” she explained.
She acknowledged her experiences with other religions, stating, “I have been to different churches. I am not saying Christianity is not a good religion. It is not for me to say. I am just saying what works for me is Islam.”
Despite the unfollowing and negative comments she received, Ade expressed that she is unbothered by the reaction. “I lost some fans for revealing that I am a Muslim. They unfollowed me. Some people even came to my DMs to bite out whatever spirit they thought was within me. Some were praying for me. A lot of Muslims embraced me. But I really don’t care about that. It is just for me and what works for me,” she said.
