Obi, Kwankwaso hold Kaduna town hall
Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, held a town hall meeting in Kaduna alongside his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to discuss pressing issues facing Nigeria. The event, which took place as part of the party’s initiative to engage directly with citizens, provided attendees with an opportunity to voice their concerns and offer suggestions regarding national challenges.
Obi shared details of the meeting in a post on his Facebook page, noting that it followed a similar event held recently in Port Harcourt. The town hall was attended by other party candidates and took place after Obi and Kwankwaso visited the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute in Rigachikun, Kaduna.
During the meeting, Obi emphasized the importance of national unity, poverty reduction, and investment in healthcare and education. He also stressed the need to address security challenges, aiming to create conditions for internally displaced Nigerians to return safely to their homes and farms.
The discussion further covered issues related to corruption and inefficiencies within the fuel subsidy regime, highlighting the necessity of alleviating fuel-related costs for citizens. According to Obi, it is essential for the economy to be structured in a way that allows Nigerians to live with dignity.
Obi encouraged other political figures to engage with the public and consider their feedback, underscoring the role of grassroots interaction in democracy. “The very essence of democracy is people-centered governance. Leaders must leave their comfort zones to interface with those they seek to serve,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the party leadership and organizers of the town hall, commending the residents of Kaduna for their active participation and support for responsive leadership. Obi concluded his remarks with his campaign slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible, and Nigeria will be OK.”
