Independence Day: Buy one, get one free on King Kosoko cinema tickets
Teqsus Studios has announced a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for its historical film “King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos,” available at select cinemas nationwide on October 1, coinciding with Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day celebration.
The promotion will apply to all showings of the film on Thursday, as the nation commemorates its independence. Directed by Adebayo Tijani, “King Kosoko” features Femi Adebayo in the titular role and has garnered over 65 million naira at the Nigerian box office since its release on August 28 through FilmOne Entertainment.
The film narrates the story of Oba Kosoko’s defiance against British colonial forces and his efforts to protect the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Lagos, culminating in the bombardment of Lagos in 1851, an event known as the Salt Water War.
Produced by Ayo Ajayi and Segun Olojo-Kosoko—a seventh-generation descendant of Oba Kosoko—the film boasts an ensemble cast that includes Odunlade Adekola, Prince Jide Kosoko, Fathia Balogun, Gabriel Afolayan, Femi Branch, Tina Mba, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule, Aishat Lawal, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Niyi Johnson, and Sola Kosoko. The film is presented in Yoruba with English subtitles.
Ajayi, who is also the executive producer, stated that the ticket offer is a means of connecting the national holiday to the film’s narrative. “Independence Day is exactly what this film is about, a people determined to govern themselves,” he remarked, emphasizing the significance of showcasing a story centered on a king who fought to maintain his kingdom’s autonomy.
