Governor Uba Sani Promotes Infrastructure Development in Kaduna State
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani is initiating significant infrastructure development and rural transformation aimed at benefiting residents across all generations, rather than focusing solely on the next electoral cycle.
Since taking office more than three years ago, Sani has launched numerous projects across all senatorial districts, ensuring that each of the state’s 23 local government areas—both urban and rural—receives attention.
The Uba Sani Aides Assembly (USAA), comprising Technical Assistants, Special Assistants, and Senior Special Assistants to the Governor, made this assessment following a recent tour of selected legacy projects.
After the inspection, USAA Chairman Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed remarked that the Governor has initiated 160 new road projects alongside inherited ones, resulting in a total road network under construction of 1,355 kilometers. He emphasized that both urban and rural communities are benefitting from these initiatives.
“Infrastructure development has not been concentrated in the capital while rural areas wait,” Mohammed said. He noted the use of reputable contractors and adherence to timelines as indicators of a government focused on delivering value for money.
He commended the Sani administration for its commitment to enhancing both urban and rural infrastructure, highlighting three flagship projects: the Kaduna Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal at Millennium City in the Chikun local government area, the Kabala Costain to Aliyu Makama Road and Bridge, and the ongoing reconstruction of the historic Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
The Kaduna Modern Inter-State Bus Terminal sits on 18 hectares and is the largest facility of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa, with a capacity for 5,000 vehicles. “Designed as a modern transport hub with state-of-the-art facilities, it operates entirely on a solar-powered grid, enhancing efficiency and environmental responsibility,” Mohammed noted.
He added that the terminal is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Kaduna city by redirecting inter-state and heavy vehicle traffic, thus improving safety and the overall passenger experience.
Moreover, Mohammed explained that the terminal will stimulate job creation, provide opportunities for small businesses, and attract investment to Chikun and neighboring communities. He highlighted that the terminal is part of a comprehensive transportation vision that also includes a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, plans for light rail, and the modernization of motor parks statewide.
The chairman also addressed the Kabala Costain to Aliyu Makama Road and Bridge project, which had been stalled since 2022 due to unresolved contractor payments and utility relocations. He reported that the current administration inherited the project at approximately 30% completion but has since settled outstanding obligations and remobilized contractors.
Additionally, the Ahmadu Bello Stadium is undergoing reconstruction and expansion from 16,000 to 33,000 seats, making it the second-largest stadium in Nigeria after Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The renovated facility will feature a hybrid football pitch and Olympic-standard amenities.
“This stadium will remain a national asset, available for use by national teams, federal sporting programs, and major events. Beyond sports, it represents an economic investment that will draw tournaments and visitors, boosting business in the hospitality and transportation sectors while creating jobs for youth,” Mohammed stated.
The USAA plans to launch a statewide awareness campaign to educate citizens in all local governments about the projects and their benefits. Mohammed urged the electorate to continue their support for Governor Sani and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to build on the achievements of the current administration.
“We will reach out to markets, villages, towns, and communities, encouraging our people to support a government that is delivering results. Continuity is essential for consolidating these gains,” he added.
