Tinubu mourns former NADECO leader Ralph Obioha

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences following the death of Chief Ralph Obioha, a former leader of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO).
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed Obioha as a patriot who significantly contributed to the struggle for democracy in Nigeria.
Obioha was widely recognized as a respected statesman, former lawmaker, and businessman, and was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement.
The President extended heartfelt condolences to Obioha’s family, the community of Abia State, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, fellow NADECO members, and all Nigerians mourning his loss.
In his remarks, President Tinubu emphasized that Obioha belonged to a generation of Nigerians who responded to the country’s call during some of its most challenging times. He noted Obioha’s commitment to democratic governance during the fight to restore democracy following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
“Chief Obioha’s dedication to the pro-democracy cause came at great personal cost. However, he remained steadfast in his belief that Nigeria’s future was linked to democracy, justice, constitutionalism, and the people’s right to elect their leaders,” the President stated.
Tinubu remarked on the importance of remembering those who defended democracy during difficult periods, saying, “While the passage of time may fade memories, the contributions of patriots must never be forgotten.”
He characterized Obioha as a courageous figure who made sacrifices for democracy and upheld the values essential for a stronger Nigeria.
“His passing is not only a loss to his family and community but to the nation as a whole. We will remember him for his courage, convictions, service, and belief in Nigeria,” Tinubu added.
On behalf of the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria, the President conveyed his deepest sympathies to Obioha’s family and loved ones. He also prayed for their comfort and for eternal rest for Obioha’s soul, concluding, “May his legacy remind us that building a nation requires courage, sacrifice, conviction, and faith.”
