Record label took N8m out of N10m compensation I got after Burna Boy assaulted me – Mr 2Kay

Nigerian Singer Mr. 2Kay Claims Inadequate Compensation from Record Label Following 2017 Assault
LAGOS, Nigeria — Abiye Jumbo, popularly known as Mr. 2Kay, has disclosed that his record label allocated only 2 million naira of the 10 million naira he received as compensation for a robbery and assault that occurred at Eko Hotel and Suites in 2017. The attack was allegedly orchestrated by armed men connected to fellow artist Burna Boy.
In an interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Mr. 2Kay expressed discontent with how the compensation was managed, stating that it influenced his decision to part ways with the record label.
“When Burna Boy sent boys to beat me up in Eko Hotel, the boys attacked me and ended up robbing me,” he recounted. “Eko Hotel later compensated me with 10 million naira, but my record label gave me only 2 million naira out of it. So, I left the record label.”
Mr. 2Kay indicated that he has transitioned into a music executive role, emphasizing the financial potential of the business.
The incident in question took place on October 22, 2017, after Mr. 2Kay performed at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert at Eko Hotel and Suites. He was attacked in his hotel room by individuals posing as room service, who subsequently robbed him at gunpoint.
The Lagos State Police Command arrested four suspects in connection with the robbery, including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok. During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted they were hired by Burna Boy to confront Mr. 2Kay.
Burna Boy was declared wanted and later surrendered to authorities. He was charged in December 2017 with conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery, subsequently being granted bail. The case was later withdrawn by Mr. 2Kay after Burna Boy extended an apology.
In August 2021, the longstanding conflict between the two artists appeared to be resolved, as a viral video showed them amicably socializing at a nightclub in Lagos.
