Russia to Supply Diesel Fuel to Global Markets, Trump Announces

Published on October 9, 2026

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Russia has agreed to supply 300,000 tonnes of diesel fuel for global markets following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump described the talks with Putin as “highly successful.” He stated that Russia will deliver over 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately, with an additional 500,000 tonnes expected in November and a total of 1 million tonnes thereafter.

Trump also mentioned that Russia would deliver an extra 3 million tonnes of fuel in the near future.

Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy for President Putin, commended the collaboration between the United States and Russia on energy matters shortly after the announcement. “Russia-US cooperation on diesel and energy will benefit the world,” he wrote on the social media platform X.

This announcement occurs amidst ongoing Ukrainian airstrikes, which have reportedly disrupted more than half of Ukraine’s oil refining capacity, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.

The agreement follows a recent decision by the G7 nations to release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel in response to calls from the White House to alleviate soaring fuel prices.

Diesel prices have been elevated in recent months but have recently begun to decline. According to the American Automobile Association, the average price for diesel is currently $6.27 per gallon ($1.66 per litre). This figure represents a decrease of $0.10 from the previous week, although it remains $5.94 higher than one month ago.
