2027: Fubara playing active role in Rainbow Coalition – Wike

Wike Affirms Fubara’s Role in Rivers Leadership Amid Political Speculation
Abuja — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, emphasized Tuesday that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State remains a key member of the ruling political coalition, countering speculation that he has been marginalized.
Speaking during a media briefing, Wike addressed concerns about Fubara’s recent low profile. He contended that the governor’s quiet demeanor does not suggest any form of exclusion from the political sphere.
“Fubara has not been pushed aside. If you know him, he’s been a very quiet person,” Wike stated, reinforcing the governor’s commitment to the Rainbow Coalition and his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Wike highlighted Fubara’s active engagement in political activities, noting that the governor recently hosted a significant strategic meeting at his residence attended by prominent stakeholders. “Do you know what it takes to hold a meeting in his house?” Wike asked. “What matters most to Gov. Fubara is ensuring that his political family retains its influence and power moving forward.”
As the campaign coordinator for Rivers State, Wike confirmed that the composition of the campaign committee had been finalized, with Fubara designated as a primary leader.
Reflecting on past political tensions, Wike attributed them to external influences and ungrateful factions, including certain opposition governors, who had attempted to create a rift between him and Fubara. Despite these challenges, he noted that reconciliation and mutual forgiveness have triumphed.
Wike also addressed inquiries about Fubara’s future political opportunities post-tenure, including possible federal appointments. While he stated that he lacked the authority to nominate ministers, Wike expressed confidence in Fubara’s standing within the political landscape.
Reiterating that rumors of discord between himself and the governor are unfounded, Wike underscored their collaborative efforts to ensure political stability in Rivers State. He explained that the Rainbow Coalition was designed to unify various political factions across party lines, including members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to present a cohesive agenda under President Tinubu.
When questioned about the allocation of offices and candidacies among coalition members, Wike defended the approach as an example of political strategy that acknowledges regional differences while fostering unity. “The umbrella does not mean that all the candidates will be one party,” he said. “We look at the peculiarities of areas, and say, listen, all of us are together and all of us are supporters of Mr. President.”
