2027: No real tension between Wike, APC governors  -  Morka

APC Dismisses Claims of Tension Between Party Governors and Federal Capital Territory Minister

Felix Morka, spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has rejected allegations of discord between the party’s governors and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Morka stated that there is no significant tension among the parties involved.

In an interview on Arise Television’s News Day on Tuesday, Morka referred to the perceived conflict as a “false battle.” He emphasized that both the APC governors and Wike are united in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“There was no real tension between those positions because they united in their extraordinary commitment to the re-election of the president,” Morka said.

Morka highlighted that the Progressive Governors Forum is composed of governors elected under the APC platform, while Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, serves in Tinubu’s cabinet and is a prominent supporter of the President.

He characterized the claims of discord as largely insignificant, noting that the recently released presidential campaign council list has clarified the roles of those participating in Tinubu’s re-election efforts.

Morka pointed out that the council includes governors who are not members of the APC, reinforcing Tinubu’s capacity to garner support from various political factions. “Governors who are not of the APC are front and center, coordinating some of our activities in their respective jurisdictions,” he remarked.

The APC spokesperson described this political landscape as a new phase in Nigeria’s democracy, suggesting that Tinubu is successfully bridging divides by engaging politicians from different parties. “What we’re witnessing today is novel and represents a new dawn for democracy,” Morka stated.

He argued that this collaboration is unprecedented in a presidential system, where political parties typically compete against one another. Morka concluded by asserting that Tinubu is fostering a coalition of political actors to advance his administration and campaign goals.

“We’re seeing a president who is transcending all divides, nullifying what I call the politics of difference, and bringing people together under a common agenda for the good of the citizens,” he said.
