Sowore slams N5bn suit against DSS DG, AGF over alleged abduction inside court

The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has filed a lawsuit against the Department of State Services (DSS), its Director-General Tosin Ajayi, and Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, in connection with an alleged assault and forcible removal from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The suit, submitted on October 13, 2026, seeks N5 billion in damages for what Sowore claims is a violation of his fundamental human rights. The case arises from incidents that occurred on June 22, 2026, during which Sowore contends that DSS operatives acted unlawfully.

Sowore is calling for the court to declare the DSS’s actions illegal and unconstitutional, citing violations of his rights to dignity and personal liberty. The suit, filed under reference FHC/ABJ/CS/2480/2026, also names DSS Deputy Director Benjamin Bulus, who Sowore claims led the operation.

Court documents indicate that the situation escalated after Justice Mohammed Garba Umar mandated that Sowore be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre while awaiting a decision on his application for a stay of execution regarding a bail revocation and subsequent bench warrant. Sowore alleges that, while waiting for correctional officials to take him into custody, armed DSS operatives entered the court building and confronted him.

Sowore further claims that some DSS operatives were wearing masks and that he was assaulted before being forcibly taken to the building’s basement against his will.
