Police arrest suspect over beheading of Niger motorcyclist

Niger State Police Arrest Man for Alleged Beheading of Motorcyclist

Niger State Police have apprehended a 25-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Ibrahim—also known as Manga—in connection with the alleged beheading of a commercial motorcyclist and the theft of his motorcycle.

The arrest took place on October 1, 2026, at approximately 2 p.m. by officers from the Maikunkele Division, aided by personnel from the Violent Crime Response Unit.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on September 30, 2026. Ibrahim reportedly hired 23-year-old Shehu Mohammed, a commercial motorcyclist from Pai village in the Bosso Local Government Area, to transport him from Beji to Garatu village, under the pretense of visiting friends.

The police report states that while returning from Garatu around midnight, Ibrahim allegedly conspired with two accomplices—identified only as Risku and another individual, both of whom remain at large—to attack Mohammed. During the assault, the motorcyclist was reportedly beheaded, and his Bajaj motorcycle was stolen by the assailants.

During police interrogation, Ibrahim allegedly confessed to his role in the crime. Authorities have since recovered the stolen motorcycle and a cutlass from him.

Ibrahim is currently in custody at the Violent Crime Response Unit while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances of the case and to locate the remaining suspects.

SP Abiodun indicated that once the investigation is complete, Ibrahim will be charged in a court of law.

The Commissioner of Police for Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, emphasized the command’s dedication to combating violent crime and ensuring that offenders are held accountable. He also urged the public to assist law enforcement by providing credible information to aid in crime prevention and detection.
