Ogun State Police Urge Schoolgirls to Avoid Cultism and Abuse

Abeokuta, Ogun State — The Ogun State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, has issued a stern warning to schoolgirls to steer clear of cultism, cybercrime, drug abuse, and child marriage. The advisory was part of a sensitization campaign organized for the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, held at Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School and Baptist Girls’ College, Idi-Aba.

The campaign, part of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), was spearheaded by the State Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent of Police Opeyemi Oluborode. During the event, Oluborode addressed students about the risks associated with these vices, stating that such behaviors could jeopardize their education and future prospects.

Aligning with this year’s theme—“End Child Marriage & Invest in Girls’ Rights”—Oluborode highlighted the importance of safeguarding girls from child marriage, discrimination, and abuse, in accordance with the Child Rights Act. He elaborated on the significance of gender equality, access to education, and legal protections, encouraging students to resist discrimination and harmful practices.

Oluborode urged the attendees to embrace education, discipline, and self-confidence, reinforcing that gender should not hinder their pursuit of excellence.

The police command called for ongoing collaboration among law enforcement, educational institutions, parents, and community leaders to protect children and ensure safe learning environments. Authorities urged stakeholders to report any suspected cases of child abuse or exploitation.

In response to the campaign, the students pledged to reject social vices, resist child marriage, and commit to academic excellence. School administrators commended the police for their focus on child protection and youth development.
