Governor Fubara Calls for Action to Enroll Out-of-School Children

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria — During the launch of the 2026/2027 school enrollment drive for southern states on Thursday, Governor Siminalayi Fubara urged community engagement in identifying and enrolling children who are out of school. The event highlighted the importance of ensuring that all children, regardless of their social background or economic circumstances, have access to quality education.

Represented by Dr. Dagogo Wokoma, Secretary to the State Government, Fubara emphasized that inclusive education is crucial for sustainable development. He challenged stakeholders to take active steps in overcoming barriers to education, such as poverty and social inequalities.

Fubara encouraged participating states and local communities to transform their commitments into concrete actions. He called for efforts to identify at-risk children and engage their parents and guardians in the enrollment process.

Aisha Garba, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, acknowledged the significant number of out-of-school children as a pressing issue in Nigeria’s education landscape. She stressed the need for enhanced collaboration among governments, communities, parents, and other stakeholders to guarantee that every Nigerian child has access to education.
