ABUJA — The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, announced that major opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Accord Party, have aligned with the ruling party’s campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Yilwatda made this statement to State House correspondents following a meeting with President Tinubu, alongside Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC). The discussion focused on preparations for the formal launch of the party’s nationwide presidential campaign, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, in Kaduna.
Yilwatda noted that the APC has garnered support from previously competitive political parties, viewing this as evidence of broadening political alignment around the President. “If you look at what the party is doing now, the oppositions are with us. All political parties that have defeated us in any election are all with us,” he stated, mentioning the PDP, APGA, and Accord Party as examples.
While he claimed widespread alliance support, Yilwatda did not clarify if this included formal endorsements from the national leaderships of the opposition parties.
He expressed confidence in the party’s campaign preparations, asserting that the leadership, committees, and local structures are fully mobilized for the campaign launch. “For now, everything is set; the preparation is on, the members are motivated, the states, the committees are ready, and everything that is supposed to be done has been done,” he said.
In a separate statement, Yari emphasized that the APC’s campaign would focus on issue-based discussions centered on the achievements of the Tinubu administration, rather than personal attacks against opposition candidates. He highlighted the importance of presenting the government’s record as the foundation for seeking another mandate in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
“As a Council, what we say we are going to do? We are going to do a campaign with the records. A responsible campaign, no insults, no calling of names,” Yari stated. He added that the campaign would engage Nigerians on the policies implemented under the Tinubu administration and encourage voters to consider the party’s record for continuity.
The remarks come as the APC intensifies preparations for its nationwide presidential campaign, with Kaduna chosen for the formal flag-off. Following an earlier meeting with Tinubu on October 9, Yari announced that the President approved the campaign timetable, which includes visits to states across the country. The PCC was inaugurated on October 14, establishing a framework for the ruling party’s mobilization efforts.
President Tinubu chairs the campaign council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and Yilwatda serving as vice chairmen, while Yari coordinates daily activities as Director-General.
