‘APC has more problems within’  -  Ndume affirms Shettima’s fear

Senator Ndume Supports VP Shettima’s Concerns About APC Divisions

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, has expressed his agreement with Vice President Kashim Shettima regarding the internal divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ndume stated that the ruling party faces significant challenges from within its own ranks, more so than from opposition parties.

In comments made on Saturday, Ndume acknowledged that while opposition parties may appear vocal and unified as the 2027 general elections approach, the genuine issue lies in the APC’s internal strife. “The Vice President was straightforward. We have more problems within than without,” he said, emphasizing that the focus on personality over policy is a pressing concern.

He criticized the political landscape for often prioritizing personal rivalries rather than vital discussions on policies and solutions to pressing national issues. “That’s dangerous,” Ndume remarked, suggesting that shared backgrounds among politicians across party lines often lead to these conflicting views driven by power struggles.

His remarks were in response to Shettima’s warning that the APC’s internal divisions represent a more substantial threat than the opposing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking at the launch of the campaign head office for Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) in Abuja, Shettima stressed the importance of unity in the ruling party. “I am not afraid of the PDP. I am more afraid of internal contradictions within our household,” he commented.

During the event, Shettima urged northern political leaders to support the party’s gubernatorial candidates while advancing the presidential campaign. He stated, “There is no point in championing the cause of the presidential election and then undermining the governor in the gubernatorial election.”

Shettima called for party members to unite and support APC governors, National Assembly representatives, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party prepares for upcoming elections. “Let’s rally around our governors. Let’s rally around our members of the National Assembly. Let’s rally around President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and work towards victory in the next round of elections,” he concluded.
