2027: Oborevwori banks on 13th-month pay for workers’ support

Delta Governor Links Salary Benefits to APC Support Ahead of 2027 Elections
ASABA — Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State announced on Tuesday that his administration’s 13th-month salary package for civil servants is contingent upon their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Oborevwori emphasized that civil servants are politically obliged to back the party.
The governor, who heads the campaign council, introduced “MORE Plus” as the theme for his re-election campaign at the event held in Asaba.
Oborevwori highlighted that the additional salary payment, which he described as “times two,” reinforces the link between workers’ welfare and the continuation of his administration. “What you’re receiving now is times two in December,” he explained, clarifying that all public servants and political appointees would benefit from the 13th-month salary package.
As chair of the campaign council, Oborevwori urged members to effectively communicate President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives at the grassroots level, encouraging mobilization across various polling units. He characterized the council’s membership as a commitment to public service and called for unity and dedication among members to achieve victory not only for Tinubu, but also for himself and other APC candidates.
“Our achievements must speak for us, but we must also be prepared to explain them convincingly,” he stated, citing infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment, and security as focal points of his M.O.R.E Agenda.
Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme praised Oborevwori for aligning Delta State with the Federal Government and urged party affiliates to build upon these advancements. He emphasized the importance of publicizing Tinubu’s accomplishments in local government autonomy, education funding, grassroots development, security, and infrastructure.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, defended the Federal Government’s economic reforms, stating that although they may cause temporary hardship, such decisions are essential to rectify the nation’s economic challenges, particularly in relation to fuel subsidies.
Delta APC Chairman Chief Solomon Arenyeka declared the inauguration a sign of the party’s preparedness to compete and succeed in the 2027 elections. Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, representing Delta North, acknowledged heightened expectations following a significant defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in April 2025. He encouraged the council to demonstrate its electoral strength and engage voters directly beyond merely holding rallies.
Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, representing Delta Central, welcomed the APC’s status as the ruling party in the state and vowed to support the re-election efforts for both Tinubu and Oborevwori. In Delta South, former Secretary to the State Government Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay affirmed that the administration’s achievements would bolster their campaign and assured a collaborative effort in mobilizing votes.
Senator James Manager, the campaign council’s Director-General, committed to working alongside party leaders and members, highlighting the task’s demands for collective effort and ongoing grassroots involvement.
