‘Northern leaders begged Tinubu to support Buhari, promised to return power after eight years’ – APC chieftain

Northern Leaders Urged to Honor Political Agreement with Tinubu, Says APC Chieftain
By Muhammad Inuwa, Dutse
A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former House of Representatives member for Birnin-Kudu/Buji in Jigawa State, Engr. Magaji Da’u Aliyu, has asserted that Northern political leaders sought President Bola Tinubu’s support for former President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign, promising to return power to the North after eight years.
Speaking to supporters in Birnin Kudu, Aliyu, who serves as the Deputy Campaign Director for the Northern segment of the Tinubu Support Group, emphasized that the North has no basis for opposing Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election. He insisted that the region must honor the political agreement allegedly established prior to Buhari’s presidency in 2015.
He recounted that Buhari had unsuccessfully pursued the presidency three times before Northern leaders approached Tinubu in Lagos to request his backing.
“Buhari contested the presidential election three times and lost. We then went to Lagos to ask Tinubu to support Buhari’s presidential ambition,” Aliyu stated. “He agreed to support us with the understanding that after Buhari’s eight years in office, power would return to his side, and we accepted that agreement.”
Aliyu stressed that supporting Tinubu’s re-election is a matter of upholding the commitment made to him, asserting that Northerners have no justification for abandoning the agreement.
“For every Northerner, fulfilling that agreement is mandatory,” he said. “We have no reason not to honor the agreement we entered into.”
Aliyu pledged that members of the Northern Tinubu Support Group would mobilize resources to ensure the President’s victory in the upcoming presidential election.
“On our part, we will support Tinubu’s re-election bid with our lives and wealth to ensure that we fulfill the promise we made,” he concluded.
In addition to discussing political alliances, Aliyu also addressed criticisms of President Tinubu regarding the nation’s security challenges. He argued that no individual holds absolute power over security matters, asserting that genuine peace and stability can only be achieved through divine intervention.
“Let us stop the blame game. Only God has the power to provide security. We should seek His forgiveness, and He will grant us peace and stability,” he stated.
