Kebbi NLC demands N70,000 monthly transport allowance for workers

KEBBI, Nigeria – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kebbi State chapter, is advocating for a minimum monthly transport allowance of 70,000 naira for workers in response to increasing commuting expenses.

Murtala Usman, the state chairman of the NLC, made the announcement on Monday, stating that a delegation will soon meet with Governor Nasir Idris to formally present the union’s request. This proposal emerged from a stakeholders’ meeting that included representatives from various affiliate unions within the state.

Usman emphasized that the proposed allowance should apply to all public sector employees, encompassing teachers, local government staff, health workers, and other civil servants. “We are demanding a minimum of 70,000 naira or higher, and we want the allowance to cover all categories of workers without discrimination,” he stated.

The union leader further indicated that discussions with members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly are underway to garner support for the proposal ahead of its presentation to the state government. Usman underlined that the transport allowance aims to alleviate the financial strain on workers facing the challenges of rising transportation costs.
