Kano police recover Hyundai car stolen from church

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen Hyundai vehicle that belonged to a local churchgoer and returned it to its owner.
CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Wednesday outlining the details of the case. The golden Hyundai, with registration number AA 444 BL, was reported stolen on October 25, 2026, while its owner, Uchenna Emmanuel, attended a service at St. Thomas Church on Airport Road in Kano.
Emmanuel parked the vehicle around 11 a.m. for the service and discovered it missing when he returned later that day. He notified the police at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Following Emmanuel’s report, officers from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) initiated an intelligence-driven operation to locate the vehicle. On October 26, the stolen car was spotted within the premises of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, abandoned by unidentified individuals.
Police operatives set an ambush to apprehend anyone who might come to claim the vehicle, but no suspects appeared. The car was ultimately recovered on October 28 and taken to the SIS office for investigation before being returned to Emmanuel.
Emmanuel expressed gratitude to the police for their quick response and professionalism in resolving the matter. He also urged vehicle owners to take necessary security measures when parking in public areas such as churches, markets, and hospitals.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori advised motorists to equip their vehicles with security devices, including trackers as well as steering or pedal locks, and to ensure proper vehicle security.
The police command stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects involved in the theft, and the investigation remains active.
