FIFA U-17 WWC: NDC sends message to Flamingos ahead of Nigeria vs Japan final

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended its congratulations to the Flamingos, Nigeria’s women’s Under-17 national football team, for securing a place in the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. This marks a historic achievement, as the Flamingos are the first African team to reach the final of the tournament.
The team made headlines by defeating Brazil 3-1 in the semi-finals held in Morocco, delivering Brazil its first loss of the competition. This victory followed a determined comeback for the Nigerian squad after an initial defeat to Poland in their opening match.
Osa Director, Esq., the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, commended the players for their resilience and determination. In a statement, he said the team’s accomplishments had not only instilled pride in Nigeria but also uplifted the spirits of its citizens amid ongoing economic challenges.
“You have made our country proud. Your achievements have lifted Nigerians from hunger, poverty, and sadness imposed by the ruling party’s ruinous policies,” he stated.
The Flamingos’ road to the final included several notable victories over strong competitors. They began by defeating two-time champions DPR Korea 3-1 in the group stage, ending an eight-year unbeaten streak for the Asian team. This was followed by a 2-1 win against Mexico in the Round of 16 and a 1-0 victory over Venezuela in the quarter-finals. The team’s 3-1 semi-final win against Brazil capped an impressive run.
As the Flamingos prepare for the final against Japan on Saturday, Director encouraged the players to remain focused and strive for victory. “The NDC and Nigerians are fully behind you,” he said, expressing hope that the team would bring home the World Cup trophy. A win would make history, as it would mark the first time an African nation claims the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
