Tems, Burna Boy become African artistes with most Billboard Hot 100 entries

Nigerian Artists Tems and Burna Boy Set Billboard U.S. Hot 100 Record

Nigerian singers Tems and Burna Boy have surpassed South African band Seether to become the African artists with the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart.

Previously tied at seven entries, Tems and Burna Boy each added new chart placements this week through collaborations on J. Cole’s album, The Fall-Off. Tems features on “Bounce Road Blues,” which debuted at number 34, while Burna Boy’s collaboration on “Only You” entered the chart at number 78. This achievement brings their total to eight entries, the highest for any African artist.

In 2023, Tems has recorded three Billboard Hot 100 entries, including “Raindance” with Dave and “What You Need,” along with “Bounce Road Blues.” She currently holds the record for the most entries by an African artist this year.

Burna Boy has also made history as the first African artist to have a song on the Billboard Hot 100 for six consecutive years. His chart history includes “Loved By You” (2021), “Last Last” (2022), “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” and “Talibans II” (2023), as well as upcoming tracks “Just Like Me,” “We Pray,” and “WGFT,” set to release in 2024 and 2025.

Both artists continue to pave the way for African representation on the global music stage.
