New Hospital Commissioned by ASR Africa and Nigeria Customs Service in Bauchi State
Bauchi, Nigeria — The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have officially opened the Abdul Samad Rabiu Nigeria Customs Service Hospital in Yelwa Tudu, Bauchi State.
The new facility, initially established as a 30-bed healthcare center, has been upgraded to a 60-bed reference hospital through ASR Africa’s Security Sector Support Grant (SSSG) Scheme in collaboration with the NCS. This initiative is part of ASR Africa’s ongoing effort to enhance healthcare infrastructure for both security personnel and local communities across Nigeria.
During the commissioning ceremony, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) CG Ogbonna of NCS’s Bauchi Zone ‘D’ Command highlighted the importance of the new hospital. “The completion and commissioning of this facility represent a significant milestone in NCS history and reflect our commitment to the welfare of our officers and the surrounding community,” Ogbonna stated.
The newly inaugurated hospital features seven clinical departments: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and medical laboratory services, all designed to offer high-quality medical care.
Dr. Ubon Udoh, Managing Director and CEO of ASR Africa, reiterated the organization’s commitment to impactful interventions in health, education, and social development. “This facility will not only serve NCS personnel but also benefit the host community and other security agencies in the state,” he remarked. Dr. Udoh emphasized that ASR Africa will engage with the NCS to ensure the hospital’s maintenance and long-term success.
Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, B.A. Adeniyi, commended ASR Africa and its founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu, for their significant contribution to improving the welfare of customs personnel and the local population. Adeniyi noted that this gift represents the largest single donation to the NCS and pledged to maintain the facility to meet community health needs.
In a statement, community representative Hon. Tanko Dutse expressed gratitude toward both ASR Africa and the NCS for enhancing healthcare access, asserting that the new hospital will provide better services to the constituency.
The commissioning of the Abdul Samad Rabiu Nigeria Customs Service Hospital marks a continued commitment by ASR Africa to expand healthcare services across Nigeria and collaborate with public institutions to fill critical service gaps. The hospital is expected to alleviate pressure on existing public health facilities while improving access to essential healthcare in Bauchi State.
