Tems surpasses Tyla as African artiste with highest monthly listeners on Spotify
Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has surpassed South African artist Tyla as the African musician with the highest monthly listeners on Spotify.
Tems recently achieved 38.3 million monthly listeners, edging out Tyla, who has 38.2 million. This increase in listeners is attributed to several recent releases, including “What You Need” (Colour version) and “Bounce Road Blues,” a collaboration with J. Cole and Future. Additionally, her joint track with Dave, “Raindance,” continues to gain popularity.
Tems is on track to exceed the record for all-time highest monthly listeners by an African artist, currently held by Tyla at 40 million. She remains the most-streamed female African artist on Spotify, with a total of 4.7 billion streams across all credits.
