20 shops destroyed in Jos early morning market fire

Fire Destroys Shops at Jos North Market

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that a fire outbreak at Faringada Market in the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State has resulted in the destruction of 20 shops.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. and primarily affected stores selling vehicle spare parts. In addition to the shops, four containers and two vehicles—a bus and a Toyota Corolla—were also consumed by the flames. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

NEMA officials stated that its Jos Operations Office, in collaboration with the Federal Fire Service, responded to the fire. Emergency responders successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the market.

Preliminary reports gathered from market stakeholders indicate that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. NEMA has initiated an investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.

The agency acknowledged that the incident has led to significant economic losses for the affected traders. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
