Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to enhance its efforts to combat the spread of counterfeit and potentially dangerous products in Nigeria.
In a recent Instagram video, Kadiri voiced her concerns about the safety of consumer goods available in the country. She warned that counterfeit food, beverages, medications, cosmetics, and household items pose significant health risks.
“Dear Nigerians, I’m speaking to you today with a heavy heart and deep concern about the circulation of fake products in our country,” she stated.
Kadiri highlighted the dangers of purchasing seemingly safe products, noting that some items are poorly produced, contaminated, or outright fake. “This is not just a business problem; it’s a threat to human life. Imagine little children battling kidney failure,” she added.
The actress recounted a personal experience, explaining her apprehension over food safety. “I bought garlic, blended it, and went downstairs to get something. When I returned, the garlic’s color had changed. I am literally afraid of buying already packed drinks for my kids because I am scared of what the outcome of that drink will be.”
Kadiri appealed directly to NAFDAC, stating, “Please pay attention to the lives of Nigerians. Lots and lots of people are sick and are not getting better.”
