Why it’s now more difficult for new artistes to go mainstream – Joeboy

Nigerian singer Joeboy has remarked that entering the mainstream music industry has become increasingly challenging compared to previous years. During a recent interview with Jay On-Air, he voiced concern for emerging artists who are facing heightened obstacles as they seek recognition.

Joeboy noted that today’s music landscape requires artists to be adept at social media and act as influencers, a shift from earlier practices where musical talent and solid branding sufficed. He stated, “I genuinely feel for artists that are trying to go mainstream right now because, unlike before, it takes a lot more. It now depends on your personality and presence. Reflecting on previous industry standards, he added, “Back then, if you had great music, strong branding, and effective marketing, your chances of succeeding were significantly higher. But now, it demands way more than that.”

To navigate these challenges, Joeboy encouraged aspiring musicians to leverage platforms like TikTok for promoting their music.
