Borno attacks: VP Shettima vows no tolerance for terrorists in Nigeria

Vice President Shettima Reaffirms Government’s Resolve Against Terrorism

Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated the Nigerian government’s commitment to preventing any territory from falling under terrorist control. His statement follows a series of insurgent attacks in Borno State.

Speaking on Saturday, Shettima addressed recent violent events, including kidnappings in Ngoshe and coordinated assaults on military facilities in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok.

According to a release by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Shettima noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered an immediate and comprehensive mobilization of security forces to confront the attackers and restore stability in the affected regions.

“The events of the past few days serve as a painful reminder of the challenges we face,” Shettima said. “However, let it be known: we choose light over shadow, and hope over despair.”

He added that the Federal Government will not tolerate any sanctuary for those seeking to displace citizens or occupy Nigerian territory. Shettima emphasized that additional tactical resources and intelligence-led reinforcements have been deployed to support ongoing military operations in the North-East.

“We are not just fighting a war; we are defending the very essence of our humanity against those who spread a toxic rhetoric of hate,” he stated, asserting that the government will not be intimidated by “cowardly attacks.”

Shettima also assured that perpetrators will face legal consequences and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to rescuing abducted individuals.

“Our hearts bleed for the families and the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This administration will not rest until all abducted citizens are safely reunited with their families,” he said.

The Vice President commended the resilience of Borno State residents, led by Governor Babagana Zulum, as well as the dedication of military personnel engaged in combating the insurgency.
