AFCON 2027Q: Super Eagles in second place behind Guinea-Bissau despite Madagascar win
Nigeria secured a 2-1 victory against Madagascar in their opening match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying round on Friday, placing them second in Group L.
The Super Eagles rallied after conceding an early goal to claim all three points. However, their win was not sufficient to propel them to the top of the standings. Guinea-Bissau currently leads the group following a 2-0 victory over Tanzania.
In that match, Franculino Djú scored the first goal for Guinea-Bissau in the 33rd minute, followed by a second from Mama Baldé in the 58th minute, ensuring an away win.
Nigeria’s next fixture will take place away against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, as they aim to secure the top position in the group.
