Amotekun Corps Arrests Couple in Connection with Burglary of Former Speaker’s Home

Okitipupa, Ondo State – The Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as Amotekun Corps, has apprehended a couple linked to a burglary at the residence of former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele.

The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Samson Osowe and his 22-year-old wife, Ayo Oguneso, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation that traced stolen items to a transporter intending to smuggle them to Lagos for sale. The operation resulted in the recovery of seven mobile phones and various other valuables.

During a press briefing, Amotekun Corps Commander Adetunji Adeleye confirmed the arrest and noted that an additional accomplice involved in the transportation of the items has also been taken into custody following the suspects’ confessions.

“We are pleased to report that all stolen phones are in our possession, along with the two suspects and the transporter who was to move the phones from Okitipupa to Lagos,” Adeleye stated. He added that further investigations into related activities in the area are ongoing.

Former Speaker Akindele confirmed the burglary occurred late on Sunday, stating that expensive mobile devices and personal belongings were stolen, and several windows were damaged in the process. She urged for the establishment of state police in Nigeria, citing the effectiveness of Amotekun Corps as a rationale for such legislative changes.

“I have often heard about the commendable efforts of the Amotekun Corps in combating crime and ensuring security in Ondo State,” Akindele said. “Their dedication, bravery, and commitment to duty are commendable.”

She expressed her appreciation for the leadership of Commander Adeleye, noting the ongoing investigations with several suspects in Amotekun custody. The accused couple is expected to be arraigned in court shortly, while the recovered phones will be returned to the former Speaker upon the completion of the legal process.
