Atiku reacts as gunmen abduct man, wife, baby in Kaduna

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has condemned the recent abduction of Ahmed Zakka, his wife, and their infant child.

In a statement shared on his verified social media account on Monday, Abubakar expressed that no Nigerian should have to bargain for their safety or that of their family amid the threat of crime. He described the incident as particularly distressing given that it involved an infant and called on security agencies to act swiftly to ensure the safe return of the family and others still held captive.

“This distressing event occurred at a time when many families are already burdened by the rising cost of living,” he noted. Abubakar highlighted the challenges Nigerians face due to increasing prices for food, transportation, and other essentials, emphasizing that they should not also have to fear abduction at home or on the roads.

He described the video of Ahmed Zakka’s abduction as a grim reminder of the persistent insecurity affecting many communities across Nigeria. Abubakar stated that insecurity not only exacerbates hardship but also disrupts livelihoods, leaving families with emotional and financial distress.

He urged the government to go beyond mere reassurances and implement effective and sustained measures to rescue those in captivity, protect vulnerable communities, and dismantle the criminal networks responsible for such crimes. “Every Nigerian deserves to live, work, and raise a family without the constant fear of violence,” Abubakar concluded.
