APC Announces Shettima as Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially designated Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.

APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda made the announcement via X, revealing that the party received the presidential nomination forms for both Tinubu and Shettima on Friday. He described this development as a significant milestone that reinforces the party’s commitment to sustaining the Renewed Hope Agenda while building on the progress achieved across the nation.

This decision comes after months of speculation regarding a possible change in Tinubu’s vice-presidential candidate, with discussions suggesting a potential replacement with a northern Christian.

Yilwatda emphasized the importance of the occasion during a ceremony at the Continental Hotel in Abuja. He noted the presentation of the nomination forms was carried out by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, symbolizing the party’s confidence in Tinubu and Shettima’s leadership.

The event attracted a prominent gathering of party leaders, including Senator Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, along with Governors Mai Mala Buni, Nasir Idris, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Uba Sani, Babagana Umara Zulum, and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, as well as key party executives and stakeholders from across the country.

Yilwatda highlighted an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose among attendees. He reiterated the APC’s focus on bolstering grassroots support and advancing the goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda in pursuit of a more prosperous, secure, and inclusive Nigeria as the nation approaches the 2027 election.
