BREAKING: Tinubu grants Comptroller General of Customs another six-month tenure extension

President Extends Tenure of Customs Chief for Six Months

President Bola Tinubu has granted a six-month extension to the tenure of Comptroller General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi. This announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga.

Adeniyi’s tenure was initially extended by one year in 2025, with the previous expiration date set for August 1, 2026. The new extension will now last until February 2027.

Onanuga stated that this extension allows Adeniyi to further implement the National Single Window and facilitate an orderly succession within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). During this period, Adeniyi will collaborate with the NCS Board to promote qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and manage the compulsory retirement of officers reaching 60 years of age or who have served for 35 years.

Adeniyi has been a member of the Customs Service since graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s.
