Commercial bus driver dies in Lagos auto crash

Bus Driver Killed in Lagos Multi-Vehicle Collision
A commercial bus driver was killed Tuesday in a multiple-vehicle accident in the Cele inward Oshodi area of Lagos.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident in a statement from its Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq. According to the report, the crash involved a commercial mini bus commonly referred to as “Korokpe” and a Toyota Tundra pickup truck with the registration number EPE 554 YC.
Initial investigations by security personnel at the scene revealed that the driver of the commercial bus sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
LASTMA officials, who were conducting routine traffic monitoring, quickly arrived to manage the emergency response, direct traffic, and minimize disruption on the busy route. The agency stated that its officers collaborated with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force at the Cele-Ijesha Division to recover the driver’s body, which was subsequently released to his family.
The damaged vehicles were removed from the roadway by LASTMA officials, allowing for the restoration of normal traffic flow and public safety. The wreckage was later handed over to the police for further investigation into the accident’s causes and to determine liability.
LASTMA emphasized the need for thorough investigation to understand both the immediate and underlying factors contributing to the collision.
Despite the disruption, traffic movement was restored relatively quickly thanks to LASTMA’s timely intervention.
In a statement, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged drivers, particularly those operating commercial vehicles, to adhere to traffic regulations and drive responsibly.
